How much does a new boiler cost?

The typical price of a new boiler installation can vary depending on many different factors. Things like the type of flue which you have or need (the exhaust for the boilers exhaust gasses), the position of the boiler, its distance from the gas meter in the property and much more.

To give you an idea, a standard boiler swap should be somewhere in the region £1,500 - £2,000. If you require a conversion (you have a standard boiler with a hot water tank, but want a combi boiler), this could be as much as £3,000 - £4,000.

If, like many, you can't afford the whole lump sum in one go, there are options to spread the cost of your new boiler via a finance plan. Payments can be as low as £17 per month, and typically, you'll get a longer warranty than you would with a standard boiler installation.

The Boiler Quote FAQ's

If your current boiler has completely broken down and you're in desparate need of a replacement, you might want to check out our quick FAQ's before you jump right in and commit to a new installation.

Replacing a boiler is not always a simple straight forward task, so it's important for you to understand the basics to avoid any nasty, unnecessary or unexpected costs.

Why type of boiler system should I choose?

Well, this is all down to your homes 'water demand' and your budget. If you have a property that has a lot of water outlets (baths, showers, sinks etc), then you would be better sticking with a more 'conventional' boiler system which has a separate hot water tank. This way, your system will be able to maintain a steady pressure throughout, at all times.

If you have a 'smaller' property with a less water outlets, we'd recommend a 'combi' boiler as they'll heat your water on demand, which in general, makes them much more efficient.

You should always speak to multiple installation companies to compare their quotes, and opinions on what's best suited to your home.

How much will my new boiler cost?

This can vary quite a lot depending on the type of system which you're going to need installing.

As a general guide, a standard boiler swap (boiler, for a new boiler of a similar output) will be somewhere in the region of £1,500 - £2,500. If you are hoping to get a conversion (conventional boiler, replaced with a new, highly efficient combi boiler), you could be looking at costs as high as £4,000.

It's important to compare multiple quotes for your new boiler, from multiple installers to get a true comparison and a better understanding of what is best suited to your home.

Will a new boiler save money on my bills?

Yes, in some cases, a new replacement boiler could reduce your annual gas bill by as much as £350 (figures taken from The Energy Saving Trust).

To make the savings even clearer, picture this; if you have an old 65% efficient boiler in your home, for every £1 of gas that you put in to it, you will only get 65p's worth of heat or hot water. There's a huge amount of wastage. By comparison, new 'A-Rated' boilers are 90%+ efficient, which makes a huge saving.

Should I just go with the cheapest replacement boiler quote?

In many cases, picking a company based on their price alone doesn't always work out the cheapest in the long run as you may have ongoing issues, leaks and problems due to corners being cut during the installation.

We'd always recommend comparing multiple quotes for your new boiler, and then choose an installing company who strikes the best balance of price and piece of mind. Check out previous reviews (we've got that feature coming soon to BoilerDeals!), do your research on that make/model of boiler which they're suggesting and try to pick a firm which has been trading for a while. This should cut out the cowboys.
